Christmas Makeup Inspiration

Christmas, as described by many, is the great joyous season of celebration, and great merriment. It’s a time of giving and sharing, throwing parties and anticipating the arrival of a new year. There’s a lot of pressure to look good since you will be meeting a lot of friends and family. If you’re planning to look different this Christmas and add a bit of colour to your look, get in the spirit and try new and bold colours that you have probably never tried before.

For the eyes, you can either go smokey or go home. A lot of people are usually afraid of adding glitter or a little bit of sparkle to their eyeshadow, but since we are in the Christmas spirit it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to use a green eyeshadow in teal, or in any shade, you feel comfortable in. You can wear the shadows as one shade, or layered to give a gradient effect.

If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can add some glitter to the mix to give you that celebratory look.

Red or berry lips are bold colours that can almost never go out of fashion, it can either be matte or glossy, but one thing can be assured, you will definitely stand out.

Make up Shayla

If your eyes and lips are bold, it would definitely be a makeup faux pas if you don’t keep other parts of your face neutral. Apply a coat of pressed powder to add some colour to your skin and finish it off with a light layer of bronzer.

I hope you all have a colourful Christmas!

5 Essentials for the Perfect Brows

Whether you’re going for a glam look or keeping things minimal and fresh-faced, there’s one feature on your face you should always pay some extra attention to your brows. Your eyes are regarded as the windows to your soul, so it’s essential that the things that frame them are suitably groomed. It’s amazing the difference a bit of attention paid to your brows can make to your entire face. So we’ve put together our favourite essential eyebrow products to help you achieve the perfect brows.

1. Mascara Wand:

This is one of the simplest and most useful tools to use for your brows. It is used to groom as well as tame fly-aways helping you neaten your brows in the long run. You can buy one or simply reuse one from an old mascara. Brush it through your brows angling slightly upwards. If you want to add some hold, spray some hair spray or dab some Vaseline on the wand first. You will be amazed how thicker, tidier and completely revitalized your brows will look.

2. Tweezers:

Another must-have brow tool is tweezers, for best results opt for a sharp, slanted one because unlike pointy versions, they grab tiny strays quickly and won’t pinch your skin along with the hairs. Make sure you tweeze with a normal mirror, not a magnifying one as it makes it difficult to know your arch limit, and you think you have more hair to tweeze.

3. Brow Scissors:

Brow scissors are great for sculpting the brows. The sharp blades with ultra-thin edges are designed to lift, isolate and trim each hair. And with calculated accuracy and control, you can achieve a perfect arch.

4. Eyebrow Brush:

This multi-functional brush is used to outline your eyebrows. It’s stiff, yet really soft on your skin and brow hair. The mini tool also helps shape and define your hair as you trim, the bristles can also be used to gently smudge liner on your eyelids.

5. Brow Razor:

Finally, if you’ve always depended solely on your pair of tweezers for shaping your eyebrows, then it’s time to try something different. While tweezers can be painful when plucking, razors are great in whisking away small sections of hair painlessly with its thin blade which allow for exact trimming. However, the downside to shaving your eyebrows is that the hair will grow back faster.

Makeup Tricks for Oily Skin

Oily Skin

Ever wondered how you would put on makeup and in the next few hours, you’re looking all shiny and oily and even when you try to blot it the makeup ends up smeared all over. It can be very frustrating, to say the least.

Having an oily skin should not stop you from applying makeup and using products. The important factor is knowing your skin type, and these eight ideas below will help solve this beauty problem in no time.

1. Always Prime your Skin First.

When you have an oily complexion, using a makeup primer helps everything stay put. You should at least put some base on the oiliest areas (think: the T-Zone — forehead, nose, and chin) with an oil-free, anti-shine primer. Apply it first before you put any form of makeup on your face.

2. Prep your Eyes.

To cut down on eye makeup creasing, avoid priming your lids with concealer, something many women with dark circles or redness do. Instead, use a primer specifically designed for eyelids. The base creates a perfect canvas for eyeshadow and liner while absorbing crease-causing oils throughout the day.

3. Don’t Overdo Powder.

It sounds like the right thing to do to pile on the face powder. But going overboard could backfire by making your pores push out more oil. Apply powder on shiny areas. Use a matte translucent formula, which can cut shine on any skin tone. If you do apply too much powder, dampen a makeup sponge and blot it over the over-powdered areas.

4. Carry Blotting Papers.

No matter how flawless and matte your makeup looks in the morning, if you’re prone to oiliness, you’ll spot shine by midday. Some blotting sheets simply lift the oil from your skin. Others deposit a bit of powder to sop up the oil. The trick to using blotting papers without taking off all of your makeup is to press the paper where you’re oily and then roll it off your skin, instead of rubbing the paper on your skin.

5. Go Oil-Free.

Since your skin naturally produces more than enough oil, invest in makeup products (especially foundation and blush) that are oil-free and noncomedogenic, which means they don’t clog your pores. Also, use face cleansers and toners that are infused with glycolic acids, which cut down on excess oil. Another good acid to consider using is salicylic acid.

6. Look for “Long Wear.”

Water and oil can do the same things to make up: make it smear, smudge, or slip. That’s a reason to stick to eye products that are waterproof, water-resistant, or long-wear. One of the best, long-wear combos is water-resistant eyeliner and cream eyeshadow over an eye primer.

7. Think Soft Skin, not Slick Skin.

Those heavy, anti-aging creams are fine for nighttime use, but before you put on your makeup, reach for a lighter moisturizer that hydrates without being greasy. Consider using a serum. It tends to be lighter. Don’t forget your sunscreen — look for an oil-free formula. After you’ve put it on, place a tissue flat on your face and press gently to remove any excess before applying your makeup base.

8. Reduce Excess Oil.

Once or twice a week, use a treatment mask. Those made with kaolin or bentonite clay are best for oily skin types, as they naturally absorb oil and impurities while calming irritation. Apply a quarter-sized amount for the mask with your fingers. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water.

Fight Acne with Organic Neem Oil

Neem is an amazing gift from nature!

It offers unbeaten and medically proven health and beauty benefits. Loaded with nutrients, Neem oil is used in natural skin care products because it contains high levels of antioxidants that help protect the skin from environmental damage. Neem also helps fight free radical damage in the skin because it contains carotenoids, which provide high antioxidant compounds. As a result, cold-pressed Neem oil and neem extracts are widely used in cosmetics such as soap, hair products, cosmetics, hand creams and pet shampoos.

Neem oil is ideal for acne prone skin because it clears up pimples and removes bacteria that cause break outs.

1. Neem oil contains aspirin like compound which removes the acne causing bacteria from the skin.
2. It also helps to reduce redness and inflammation.
3. The high fatty acid content in neem oil prevents and treats scar that occurs because of acne and is non-comedogenic.
4. It can also be used as a face mask to remove the entire impurities and tighten the pores.

Note – Always use in small quantities.

When it comes to radiant skin, we’ll try just about anything to achieve the coveted glow. As we grow older we find ourselves growing even more concerned about maintaining that youthful appearance. Below are some of the best ways to get your skin glowing from head to toe.

1. Start with a Detox
Beautiful, glowing skin begins from the inside out, detox and anti-inflammatory agents such as activated charcoal, chlorophyll, ginger, and turmeric are on the list to cleanse internally which will translate into an external glow that is intoxicating. The health of your colon is reflected in a clear and healthy complexion.”

2. Add Exfoliation to Your Weekly Routine
Weekly or biweekly, use an exfoliator or an exfoliating cleanser on the skin. “It’s like polishing your shoes.” This will be responsible for ridding dead cells to reveal fresh, more youthful-looking skin underneath.

3. Get Sweaty
Want to glow like nobody’s business? Easy: Sweat at least once a day! “Sweating opens up the pores and excretes toxic waste that gets stored in our skin which leads to a dull complexion.

4. Don’t Neglect Hydration

Water-based beauty products are the new trend in hydrating the skin. This is because every skin type can benefit from it. Another agent responsible for glowing skin is hyaluronic acid, which binds to water in our skin, helping to deliver intense moisture and plumpness.

5. Add Antioxidants
Boost your radiance and brighten your skin with the application of a serum infused with antioxidants, such as Vitamin C. Antioxidants protect our skin from the environment’s damaging free radicals that lead to dull, ruddy skin.

4 Most Common Causes of Belly Bloat (and 4 Cures!)

It’s normal to feel bloated after a huge bowl of spicy chili or after eating three pieces of birthday cake, but if you’re constantly feeling bloated every single day and are feeling extremely uncomfortable and depressed about it, we asked certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition to explain the most common causes of belly bloat so you can stop the cycle and feel better.

Eating too fast makes us swallow air, and since air that goes in has to come out, you’ll end up feeling bloated. Slow down and focus on really chewing each bite thoroughly before swallowing. Also, ditch carbonated beverages since these cause you to ingest air, and go for water instead since this can actually prevent bloating. Overeating falls into this category as well. If every meal involves you eating until you feel grossly stuffed, you’re not only consuming extra calories that will lead to weight gain, but your digestive system can’t handle the load, so it retaliates. Focus on eating until you’re 80 percent full to avoid that sick, bloated feeling.

Surprising Foods

We know dairy products, beans, spicy or fried foods, broccoli, onions, cabbage, gluten for some, high-fat foods, and high-fiber fruits like apples and pears can cause that bloated feeling, but so can sugar and sugar alcohols. Try avoiding sugar substitutes, white and brown sugar, and even natural sugars like honey and maple syrup to see if you notice a difference. Sugar alcohols found in processed foods are also culprits so be a label reader so you can avoid xylitol, sorbitol, and mannitol. Companies also try to increase the fibre in their products, labelled on the list of ingredients as chicory root or inulin. They can cause digestive upset so you might want to ditch those foods as well.

Not Enough Roughage

Constipation is another cause of feeling bloated, so to keep things moving along, be sure to get 25 to 30 grammes of fibre each day, including fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and flax meal if you need a little extra help. Drink lots of water throughout the day and set aside 10 to 15 minutes to sit and do your business.

Bacterial Imbalance

Probiotics are good-for-you bacteria that live in our bodies, and if there is an increase of negative bacteria, that can cause digestive upset as well. Leslie recommends “adding a probiotic with good bacteria like bifidobacterium or lactobacillus to help reduce the gas your own gut produces.” You can take supplements, drink probiotic beverages, eat fermented foods like kimchi, or down some yoghurt (go for unsweetened), or there are even foods like granola or protein powder that contain probiotics.

Best Bras for Women with Small Bust

Being a woman normally means having a whole lot of problems when it comes to our figures and our weight. While most lament about being too big in the thighs and the tummy regions, others might have back problems because of a heavy bust. In direct contrast, we also have women who are way too thin, or even if they have quite the figure, lack in bust what they have just a bit lower on the abdomen.

Best Bras for Women with Small Bust

Bra tips are a dime a dozen but normally they seem to be geared towards those with a C cup or over instead of the A’s and double A’s, as well as some of the B’s with too small breasts compared to the rest of their bodies. Each individual is unique and that should be celebrated fully and not hidden away in shame.

Fit is really important, particularly for a small chested woman, and going in for a fitting should not be daunting, nor have you feeling like a teenager all over again. After all, is it not common practice to make a bra fitting a young lady’s rite of passage into teenager and womanhood?

Best Bras for Women with Small Breasts

Here are a few top functional bras that are perfect for the small bust women like us.

1. Lightly Lined Bras

While those with really small breasts are often told to go commando, some believing that they do not need the support, it is important to note that they need quite a bit of it.

Lightly padded bras are a really good bet for a small bust for adding a natural amount of extra oomph and giving you a bit more of a shape. It’s certainly nice to have that added definition, the lightly lined category meaning that while it doesn’t add volume, it provides nipple coverage and a more feminine feel.

The light contouring with the padding and the supportive underwire gives just a bit of cleavage in a classier, and infinitely more comfortable manner. T-shirt bras are perfect for this as they come with the thin layer of padding to give it a smoother, more natural feel.

2. Racerback Bras

Straps are often slipping off the shoulders and that can be because they are way too loose on your body. They also end up stretching out over time, so what fit perfectly a few months ago can now be falling every two seconds.

Different bra styles also come in handy for helping evenly distribute the weight as well. Racerback and t-strap bras are a great way to ensure you receive support in every way possible while not worrying about those straps again. Bra-converter clips come in very handy to turn any bra you own into a racerback.

Racerbacks and T-strap bras are perfect under tanks in the summer as well and often can look pretty awesome under scoop back shirts, adding some sexy and a whole lot of extra detailing.

3. Bralettes

Very popular in the fashion industry at the moment are the bralettes that were worn by many a model sashaying down the catwalk of late. They are perfect for smaller cup sizes, though they don’t really offer much in support.

They also give great shape, with more definition than a bandeau bra and a whole lot more sex appeal than a sports bra. There is no discomfort from underwire here and they make up in coverage and beauty, what they lack is in proper support. They are extremely feminine ways to show off the bodies while the bands criss-crossing really add to the garment’s appeal.

There is a wide range of bralette designs to choose from so chances are very good that you will find that which suits and pleases you. Plus, bralettes are perfect for lazy weekends spent at home or whenever else you would rather not be wearing an underwire.

4. Bandeau Bras

Some bras are totally different and not very much in style to wear as bandeaus. Going strapless works when there is less to cover up and support, but you might have trouble keeping these things up. You should look for detailing of silicone on the inside of the band so that you prevent it from slipping off the body.

Boning on the sides is also an option that offers extra support. Lots of lace can also be included to give these bras a sexier edge, looking pretty awesome peeking out from under tank tops. They are normally very fun, extremely comfortable and lay smooth, particularly the gorgeous flat lace.

There are those that come in microfiber stretch knits and with underwire to add comfort and support to the pretty sight. We would definitely go for a strappy back bandeau right about now.

5. Wireless Bras

Just like the bralette, there are a few different types of wireless bras that look just as soft and supple as all the rest, if not more, but offer a whole lot more comfort while awake or asleep. These are subtle bras that look gorgeous as well as quite natural.

There are bras without adjustable straps that come in very handy as well as there is little to think about as you enjoy your underwire-free intimates.

6. Barely There Invisible Look, Underwire Bras

Also known as wonder bras, these awesome garments are great under any type of shirt, particularly the tight ones, with front adjusting straps and a focus on endurance for the most part. For many, it appears that these types of bras are so comfortable you actually end up forgetting you have it on.

7. Gel Padded Bras

Gel padding actually adds to the shape quite nicely while also lending itself as chest support. It certainly does look good but you might not want to wear it under a T-shirt. It is perfect to wear in the winter for some extra layering as well, while it might be a little too much for those summer months.

8. Full Coverage Bras

When the bras have full coverage, they give the chest a more natural feel while still accentuating the assets. Some of them are bras that don’t even feel like bras. You should be careful on what you wear these with, but most have been happy with the results of wearing these bras.

9. Bras with Front Close

Those with smaller chests will find the bras with the closures in front to be a whole lot more comfortable after a long day of wearing them out. It keeps the back more solid, the straps are normally not adjustable and the ease of putting these on cannot be denied. Gel padding with front closures is a flat chested woman’s divine dreams.

10. Major Push Up Bras

If you want to show off that you are a size larger than you truly are, go for the push-up bras that are full of padding. Not to mention, there is the whole sexy factor added to this.

Unfortunately, these bras are heavy and a little too padded for most people, looking almost unnatural if coupled with a really tiny chest, and thoroughly uncomfortable in the heat and humidity of summer. Also, too much adjustment is necessary, from the back to the straps.

It might be a good option to only opt for this one when absolutely necessary. The good side, though? These normally keep their shape even after several washings and you rarely see any shrinking happening. They are strong and add a good lot of extra support.
